Chapter is a dynamic cultural and community venue with two cinemas, theatres, exhibition spaces, a cafe/bar, over 60 resident companies in cultural workspaces and spaces for hire for community and cultural groups. Founded in 1971, Chapter has an international reputation for innovation and collaboration and offer an ever-changing programme of the best films, performance and exhibitions from Wales and from around the world. Chapter encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with the arts and have become the flagship for the contemporary arts in Wales as one of the largest complexes of its kind in Europe.

For over 40 years Chapter has been the heartbeat of creativity in Cardiff, as an ambitious, multi-artform venue that presents, produces and promotes international art, live performance and film alongside a dynamic social space. More than 800,000 visitors are welcomed to Chapter every year.






Film Hub Wales supported projects:

  • Stanley Baker, Zulu Retrospective: Over the summer Chapter celebrated the 50th anniversary of Zulu and paid homage to this Welsh great. Click here for more info.
  • Laugharne Poetry and Film Festival: As part of the Dylan Thomas 100 celebrations, Chapter partnered with Cadw for a weekend of film screenings, poetry readings and stop-motion animation workshops set in the beautiful castle grounds. Click here for more info. 

  • Wales wide Supportive Environment Screenings: Chapter worked with Contact to produce Supportive Environment Screenings for Wales wide venues. Click here for more info.

  • Dementia Friendly Venues Pilot: A collaboration between Chapter Arts Centre, Film Hub Wales and Cardiff University,  this programme of events, curated by Dr Katie Featherstone, explored contemporary social and cultural developments and the ideas found within new-release, cult and classic film, with a focus on understandings of the mind, human behaviour, memory, the life-course, and ageing.   • Dementia Awareness Pilot: The three venues are working together to develop a sustainable model of enjoyable and inclusive events that will encourage people with dementia, their carers and the wider film audiences to come together to explore their love of film in Wales.   • Lifelong Learning and Young Audiences: A project working to create and deliver multiple life-long learning resources around a range of relevant new release films, along with in venue workshops for audiences, education training events and online video tutorials for members.   • Cultural Leadership: As part of their role as Film Hub Lead Organisation for Wales, Chapter works with Film Hub Wales and the BFI Film Audience Network to develop as a cultural leader in Wales. Click here for more info.
