Department: Film, Cinema and Film Audience Network Hub

Post Title: FAN Access Officer

Grade/Fee: £25,000 pro rata

Contract: 32 hours per week (fixed term January - end of July 2017)

Duration: Fixed term to July 2017

Funded by: Film Audience Network

Location: Freelancers may take up post from anywhere across the UK. Venue hosts are available including Cardiff, Nottingham, Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh and Sheffield. Travel across the UK a requirement.

Responsible to: Film Hub Manager / FHLO Manager where applicant is based

Responsible for: No direct reporting responsibilities. Occasional supervision of interns and work experience students.
 

Purpose of Post

The post-holder will assist the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) in the development and delivery of a UK-wide pilot approach to access in the film exhibition sector, through various audience-facing and training initiatives. There will be a particular focus on dementia awareness during the pilot period, where the post holder will consider how best to leverage additional funds for further supportive environment activity beyond July 2017.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • To audit/pool existing UK resources, links, case studies and guides in the field of dementia, including existing dementia friendly venue offers,
  • Work with specialist partners to establish the best platform to host, develop and maintain a central space for these resources, which will act as a toolkit and archive of the activities, feeding into social media networks to raise awareness,
  • Creation of new materials/templates where gaps form, such as marketing and signage,
  • Work with key partners (including academia, cinemas, carers groups and other related organisations) towards offering a year round provision of events and screenings at participating venues, with concentrated activity around Dementia Awareness Week (15-21 May 2016) and World Alzheimer’s Day (September),
  • Working with partners on the development and maintenance of an effective contacts database,
  • Explore and implement effective evaluation methodologies which are appropriate for audiences,
  • Work with participating venues on gathering information and preparing appropriate reports to BFI FAN and other funders,
  • To explore appropriate training and professional development offers such as dementia friends training, both personally and for the benefit of members,
  • Liaison with the participating venues and strategic partners on the development of an organisational strategy for becoming a Dementia Friendly Venue, including low cost long term solutions for sustainability such as coordinated bookings, shared marketing, communications and national opportunities, such as a dementia friendly kite mark and coordinated press,
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required by the Film Hub Manager relating to this field of work,
  • Consider how this can be developed as a model for working with other audiences with additional support needs such as audiences with multi-sensory needs, visual or hearing impairments and access for low socio economic or isolated groups, as examples – working with the BFI diversity executives to explore opportunities.


Budgetary Management

  • Work with the Film Hub Manager to manage the initial start-up budget and explore additional funding opportunities, to ensure legacy for both the post and the project,
  • To liaise with hub managers on individual hub budgets.


Miscellaneous

  • To be familiar and comply with all relevant health and safety, operational, personnel, customer care, equal opportunities, data protection and financial procedures, in particular ensuring that all statutory obligations are complied with, especially in relation to licensing laws.
  • Any other duty or work considered reasonable by the Film Hub Manager.


Special Conditions

May be required to work evenings and weekends and at events.


Person Specification


Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of coordinating a project on a similar scale,
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken,
  • Ability to work alone and take initiative,
  • Experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders,
  • Excellent administration skills,
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel, web publishing and databases,
  • Budget management,
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple deadline driven tasks,
  • Some experience of the issues faced by people with dementia.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of film exhibition and the wider film industry,
  • Understanding of issues faced by people with wider support or sensory needs,
  • Ability to speak Welsh for applicants in Wales.
