Welfare Hall

Film Hub Wales Member

On the 7th July 1934, The Welfare Hall was officially opened to the mining community of Ystradgynlais and was followed by a week of celebrations. The Main Hall, at that time, could seat approx 650 people.

Today, The Welfare continues to be a vibrant and versatile arts and community centre offering music, live theatre, cinema, and weekly community events, as well as conference and private hire facilities.

The Welfare’s mission statement has access and participation at its heart and aims to preserve, develop and enrich the culture of their community – The Welfare was built with miners’ pennies to provide access to the arts for all.
