At Film Hub Wales, we run a distinct project called Made in Wales (MIW), which is designed to celebrate films with Welsh connections. The project aims to add value to an independent film’s release campaign by offering advice to rightsholders releasing in Wales, creating marketing assets to highlight the film’s ‘Welshness’ and information/resources for film exhibitors to maximise cinematic bookings and audience reach.
We want to improve awareness of Welsh stories on screen, challenge harmful stereotypes about Wales and support quality films that maximise income, jobs and make a return on public investment.
We asked a sample of Welsh film exhibitors, filmmakers, Welsh screen industry organisations and distributors their thoughts anonymously on a number of areas surrounding Welsh film, the challenges they face and potential opportunities, in the hopes of supporting the future work of Made in Wales as well as vision for the wider Welsh film industry itself.
