Made in Wales Projects: Year Four

The following exhibitors received support from Film Hub Wales in 2016/17 for their Welsh Film projects:

Strategic Projects:

  • Psylence 2017: In March 2017, Pontio hosted their inaugural Psylence event – three days celebrating cinema’s unique ability to fuse music and image together to create magic.Psylence included live music co-existing with silent art cinema (Datblygu and Andy Warhol); a brand new electronic soundtrack to a classic silent epic (Earth and R.Seiliog); special guest Jon Savage in conversation and introducing cult classic film ‘Performance’; and a free educational session on creating concert movies led by Pontio Cinema Co-ordinator and director of ‘Nobody Knows if It Ever Happened’, Emyr Glyn Williams.
  • Phoenix Community Cinema, Ton Pentre: Following their successful relaunch with BFI BLACK STAR’s The Proud Valley, Film Hub Wales is proud to support the Phoenix Community Cinema as it puts on a programme of Welsh cinema over twelve months.Alongside current commercial releases, the cinema with celebrate the variety and quality of Welsh films by screening titles old and new. Films already secured include A Wonderful Christmas Time, Bypass and The Lighthouse.
  • Torch International Film Season: Building on the success of its recent Great Dames season, Torch Theatre in Fishguard has selected a series of diverse international films. Welsh films will screen alongside a selection of international titles from Spain, Greece, Afghanistan and more, including BFI FAN New Releases.The season will offer mid-week audiences an alternative to mainstream films, celebrating the cultural differences in world and Welsh cinema. To promote the project to its widely spread rural audience, the Torch will utilise innovative marketing such as Q&As and vox pops.
  • Calon Y Cymru: CELLB in Blaenau Ffestiniog presents a season of Welsh film, performance and sports. Classic Welsh-language films Solomon + Gaenor, Edlra, Y Mabinogion and more are included in a month long celebration of Welsh culture. From the Welsh Six Nations matches to live performances and cinema classics, the season is a three-month love letter to Welsh identity.

Single Screenings:

  • Film Hub Wales has also supported special screenings of Welsh films such as Prevenge at Chapter and promoted new Welsh releases as part of our Welsh Film Preview Days.
