Roald Dahl on Film launches Experimental Cinema Events Across the UK

Roald Dahl on Film season continues UK wide with a series of experimental cinema events.

Fans of the world’s number one storyteller are set to swap their seats for the great outdoors this summer, as a series of extraordinary film events celebrate Roald Dahl 100.

Roald Dahl on Film is a roaring success, with over 260 screenings confirmed across the country this summer. Now, filmgoers have even more on offer as they watch Roald Dahl on the big screen under the stars, in a Welsh castle or take part in candy factory workshops!

These pop-up cinema events are part of this summer’s Roald Dahl on Film season, developed by Film Hub Wales and Chapter in association with the Roald Dahl Literary Estate, to celebrate Roald Dahl 100 – the centenary year of Roald Dahl’s birth. The project is supported by the BFI (British Film Institute) which has awarded National Lottery funding to give audiences everywhere the opportunity to enjoy and experience Roald Dahl’s best loved stories and films.

The programme of pop-up events coincides with the ongoing UK wide tour of Scratch n’ Sniff screenings of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, an eclectic mix of film screenings, family friendly workshops and a host of fun resources, from an online game to fantastic giveaways.

Sing along with Wes Anderson’s family favourite, Fantastic Mr Fox, under the stars at TAPE coastline film festival and marvel at the all-time classic, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in the grounds of Bodelwyddan Castle for new international festival, Wicked 16. There are chocolate tasting sessions on offer from London to Belfast where Julie Dawn Cole, the actor who played Veruca Salt will be making a special appearance.

There’s a chance to reboot the cult horror flick Gremlins – based on Roald Dahl’s first published book ‘The Gremlins’ and inspired by his time as an RAF pilot – al fresco at Chester Roman Gardens, a 19th century park filled with ancient stone fortifications. There’s also a screening of the timeless TV series of Roald Dahl adaptations, Tales of the Unexpected, during an atmospheric dinner, choir performance and a murder mystery-themed quiz in Ivybridge.

2016 marks 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl – the world’s number one storyteller. There have been celebrations for Roald Dahl throughout the year and these are now building towards celebrations for Roald Dahl’s birthday – ROALD DAHL DAY on September 13th. “Whether we’re going off site to watch films in an impressive castle, or transforming the much loved village hall, audiences all over the country will be transported to the world Roald Dahl.”
